Faith-Based Accessory Dwelling Units

Pursuant to its 2023-2031 Housing Element, the City is proposing amendments to the City’s Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) ordinance to allow ADUs on faith-based properties. These properties include churches, synagogues, and other facilities for religious worship. ADUs are currently allowed only on properties with a single-family or multi-family dwelling. Allowing ADUs on faith-based properties would help the City meet its affordable housing goals by creating additional opportunities for construction of ADUs. ADUs are generally more affordable than other new single-family dwelling units.
