On Tuesday, March 8, 2016, 7:30 pm, at the Lesher Center for the Arts, the Walnut Creek Concert Band, under the direction of Harvey Benstein, presents Tales of Fantasy and Adventure.
The program will feature “Carmen Fantasie Brilliante”, by Francois Borne and arranged by Marc Oliver. A tour de force for solo flute sure to delight our Walnut Creek audience showcasing New York flutist Tara Helen O’Connor, a charismatic performer who exhibits unusual artistic depth, brilliant technique and colorful tone.
Symphony No 1, “Lord of the Rings” by Johan de Meij brings to life Tolkien’s trilogy with visits to Gandalf, Shadowfax, Lothlorien, Gollum, The Mirror of Galadriel, The Mines of Moria and The Bridge of Khazad-Dum, and of course The Hobbits. This is a wonderful soundscape for all adventurers.
Rounding out the program is an overture on themes from the “Wizard of Oz” and “Star Wars,The Marche”s. A captivating evening of music making that the entire family will enjoy.
