Rules and Regulations

For your safety and the protection of our natural resources, all visitors are responsible for knowing and obeying Open Space rules and regulations. Rules and regulations are posted at all trail entrances and on the back of the Open Space Trails Map available at Ranger Stations.

Hours

The Open Space is open to the public during daylight hours only. This period is 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset

Dogs

Dog rules vary depending on where you are in the Open Space. Trail heads are posted with this information.

Owners should pick up their pet's waste and remove it from the Open Space. You should always carry a leash for the safety and protection of your dog, other park users, and wildlife.

Dogs are required to be on leash in all in all developed picnic areas, historic sites and in parking lots and along street parking. 

Dogs are allowed off leash and under positive voice and sight command in the trail areas of Shell Ridge, Acalanes, Sugarloaf, and Lime Ridge north of Ygnacio Valley Road. This means you should be able to see your dog at all times and have them return to you immediately when you call.

Dogs are not allowed in central Lime Ridge south of Ygnacio Valley Road. This area is considered a protected wildlife habitat area.

Bicycles

Bicycles are permitted only on paved and unpaved roads over eight feet in width unless otherwise posted. Bicycles shall be operated in a safe manner with speed not in excess of 15 mph

Plants & Animals

All plant and animal life as well as cultural and geological features are protected. Do not capture, collect, harass, or harm any animal or plant species. Do not allow your dog to do the same.

Fires

All fires are prohibited in the open space including fireworks, smoking, and open fires.

Weapons

All weapons are prohibited in the open space including firearms, paintball, BB or pellet guns, crossbows, bows, or any other projectile device.

Alcohol

Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the open space unless under permit with a facility use agreement. 

Vehicles

Motorized vehicles of any type are prohibited in the open space.
