Measure O Citizens' Oversight Committee

The City’s voter approved half-cent sales tax, Measure O was approved on November 8, 2022 by 65% of Walnut Creek voters. Measure O will remain in effect for ten years.

The five-member Measure O Citizens’ Oversight Committee was created by the City Council to review and report on the receipt and the expenditure of funds from the Measure O transactions.  The City Council decides how to use the funds and what projects or areas should be prioritized.

Qualifications

  • 18 years or older
  • Registered voter
  • Resident of Walnut Creek (within the City limits) OR represent a business in Walnut Creek (within the City Limits)
  • One member shall have a financial or accounting background
  • All members are required to file a Fair Political Practices Form 700 (Statement of Economic Interests) disclosing their property, business and investment interests with the City Clerk and are required to complete City ethics training.

The Walnut Creek City Council will appoint all members.

Time Commitment and Length of Service

The Measure O Citizens’ Oversight Committee will convene at least twice annually to review and report on the receipt and the expenditure of funds from Measure O, including proceeds of bonds financed with Measure O tax revenue. 

Members are appointed to serve terms without compensation.  Members are limited to two-terms.

  • Three (3) openings for a 2-year term expiring March 2026
  • Two (2) openings for a 4-year term expiring March 2028
