Commission Duties
Planning Commissioners learn about the City's general plan and ordinances. They have the opportunity to hear about new developments across the City and draw on their experience to make recommendations.
Here are the duties of the Planning Commission:
- Prepare, review, and recommend to the City Council for its adoption a long-range, comprehensive general plan and any amendments. These efforts guide the future physical development and conservation of the City and its adjoining areas based on the community's geographic, social, economic, and political characteristics.
- Recommend for adoption by the City Council specific plans based on the general plan and drafts of regulations, programs, and legislation that may be required for the execution of the general and specific plans.
- Recommend a zoning ordinance for adoption by the City Council.
- Periodically review the City's capital investment program.
- Coordinate plans and programs with other city, county, regional, state, and federal agencies in matters of common concern.
- Perform other duties that may be required by the City Council or by State law or the municipal code.
