Encroachment permits

Encroachment permits provide the City oversight over the safe and orderly use, operation, construction, or placement of objects in the public right-of-way.

Any work performed in the public right of way requires an encroachment permit. 

Examples: 

  • Installation or repair of sidewalk
  • Curb and/or gutter
  • Driveway approach
  • Installation of sidewalk underdrain
  • Installation of sewer lateral
  • Any construction or staging requiring traffic or pedestrian control including video shoots

Fees

Permit fees are determined based on the scope of work.

Apply for an encroachment permit

Encroachment permits can be applied  for online.

1. Set up an account and sign in

Register for an Accela online permit system account. If you already have an account, skip this step.

2. Complete online application

Go to Engineering applications tab, click new ePermit application and select Online Encroachment. Fill out all information. Upload signed Encroachment permit application, insurance documents, and any site or traffic/pedestrian control plans.

3. Staff review

Engineering staff review will review your application and coordinate with you on any necessary revisions or questions as well as assess fees.

4. Pay fees

Pay fees through Accela online permit system. Payment for online encroachment permits can only be paid by credit card. A credit card convenience fee will apply for each transaction. Learn more about fees

5. Permit Issued

Once your application is approved, Engineering staff will email your permit.
